The lifeboat was launched to assist a kitesurfer in difficulties off Herne Bay. On arrival, it was found that the casualty had been in the water for nearly two hours, and required hospital treatment for hypothermia.  An RAF Sea King helicopter, which was already en route to the incident,  winched the casualty from the lifeboat, and flew him to the QEQM Hospital at Margate.
