During the station's annual Open Day, Thames Coastguard requested the lifeboat to launch to a swimmer spotted 1.5 miles offshore from Seasalter.

The Sheerness Lifeboat and an RAF Seaking helicopter from Wattisham were also tasked.

The search continued for one and a half hours after which, with the area having been thoroughly searched and nothing found, all units were stood down.
