Thames Coastguard requested Whitstable Lifeboat
to launch to assist the 28' yacht Trilogy, which was ashore at Harty Ferry
after its mooring broke. When the lifeboat arrived the owner had already
refloated the yacht, with assistance from a person ashore, and the
lifeboat crew assisted him in re mooring the vessel. The two occupants
were then landed ashore in Faversham Creek.
As the lifeboat was about to return to station,
the crew were advised of another yacht in need of assistance at Harty
Ferry. The 36' catamaran "Moondancer" had also broken its
mooring and was ashore. The lifeboat towed the vessel into deeper water,
and tried to secure it to a mooring, but this proved impossible in the
rough conditions. An attempt was then made to tow the yacht into Faversham
Creek, but the towline parted. Another towline was passed, and the
assistance of Sheerness Lifeboat was requested.
Whitstable Lifeboat then kept the yacht head to
sea and clear of the shore, until Sheerness Lifeboat arrived to tow the
yacht to Queenborough.
