Thames Coastguard requested the launch of the
Whitstable Lifeboat to assist the 24' fishing
vessel Danny Boy , broken down off Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey.
The lifeboat took the craft and its occupant under
tow to just inside Whitstable Harbour mouth where the Danny Boy was
able to run its own engine for long enough to bring itself alongside the
east quay.
There was no harm to the vessels
single occupant and following making sure that the vessel was safely
alongside, the lifeboat returned to the boathouse.
The
cause of the Danny Boy’s distress was water pump failure leading
to the engine overheating.
