The lifeboat launched to assist the motor vessel Lady Margaret, broken down with two people on board 1 mile off Tankerton.

The vessel, which was on passage from Sandwich to Faversham, initially phoned Thames CG to report their situation, and then fired a red flare to enable the lifeboat crew to pinpoint their exact position.

The lifeboat then towed the craft to Whitstable Harbour.
