Thames CG requested the lifeboat to launch to a swimmer reported in difficulties off Long Rock, Swalecliffe.

The lifeboat arrived on scene three minutes later and immediately located an elderly male floating face down in the water.

He was brought aboard the lifeboat, first aid administered, and an ambulance requested.

He was landed ashore onto the beach at Marine Crescent and transferred to the ambulance.

However, sadly the man was confirmed as deceased on arrival at hospital.
