The lifeboat launched following a report of a windsurfer waving for assistance east of Whitstable Harbour.

The man was located half a mile off the Marine Hotel, Tankerton. The boom on his rig had broken so, unable to continue sailing, he had rolled up the sail and was sitting on his board, awaiting rescue.

He was brought aboard the lifeboat and landed on to the beach in front of the Hotel Continental.
