Crew members at the boathouse were alerted by
members of the public to persons in the water between the harbour
launching ramp and West Quay. The sea had been agitated by a ship leaving
the West Quay outer berth.
The swimmers had got into difficulties and members
of their family attempted rescue by swimming to their assistance.
The lifeboat crew immediately supported one adult
female swimmer and one teenage boy, who were both brought aboard the
lifeboat in a shocked and exhausted state.
Whitstable Yacht Club safety boat retrieved one
other person and landed them ashore.
The crew was later paged at 1904 to go to the
assistance of a young boy in the water off the Clock Tower, Herne Bay,
holding onto a yellow speed limit buoy.
As the boat was about to launch Thames Cg phoned the
boathouse to report that the boy had been rescued by a passing boat, and
was now safely ashore.
