The
lifeboat launched to assist a sailing dinghy reported capsized off
Seasalter, in squally conditions. The lifeboat took the dinghy under tow,
and then landed it and its two occupants ashore into the care of Herne Bay
Mobile coastguard.
The
lifeboat then proceeded to a Dart catamaran waving for assistance 1 mile
off Seasalter. One of the two occupants, who was in a very distressed
state due to the sea conditions, was taken aboard the lifeboat and landed
ashore at the boathouse.
The
lifeboat then checked the local area for any other boats that may have
been in difficulties. Whitstable Yacht Club was in the process of hosting
the Dart 18 National Championships, and a large number of boats were
racing when the squall struck. Several needed assistance, and the Yacht
Club's rescue boats were fully occupied.
Once
it was confirmed that all craft and their crews were safely ashore, the
lifeboat returned to station.
