The lifeboat launched to assist a windsurfer in difficulties 400 yds off Whitstable Harbour, after his board had become detached from the mast and sail.

The man, and the rig,  were brought aboard the lifeboat, and a search was commenced downwind for the missing board.

This was found half a mile offshore from the Marine Hotel at Tankerton. It was recovered on board, and the lifeboat then returned to station.
