Thames CG requested the lifeboat to launch following
a report of children cut off by the tide near Warden Point, Isle of
Sheppey.
The lifeboat arrived on scene to find a group of
people waving from the beach. A crewman was put ashore to speak to them,
and they confirmed that they had been stuck in soft mud, (one of them up
to their thighs), but had been able to extricate themselves. They were
badly shaken, but otherwise unhurt.
The crewman stayed with the group, consisting of
four fourteen year olds, until a member of Sheppey Coastguard team arrived
to escort them along the shoreline to safety.
