The lifeboat launched initially to a report of a windsurfer in difficulties half a mile north of the Marine Hotel, Tankerton.

The casualty, who had becone exhausted, was brought aboard the lifeboat, and landed ashore at the Long Beach.

Thames Coastguard then requested the lifeboat to check on some jetskis between Hampton and Herne bay Pier. They were found not to be in need of any assistance, but they were advised on the local bylaws.

Whilst returning to station, the lifeboat crew observed a Topper sailing dinghy a mile off Hampton. The single female occupant was trying to sail back to shore, but making no headway against the freshening wind.

She and the boat were brought aboard the lifeboat, and taken to Tankerton Bay Sailing Club.
