Thames CG requested the lifeboat to launch following a 999 call from a member of the public reporting a small speedboat with three people on board shouting and waving for help off Hampton Pier, Herne Bay.

Three minutes after launching, whilst off Swalecliffe, the lifeboat was stood down, as the speedboat had got under way again, and was now safely ashore.

It was discovered that the occupants had been waving to a relative on the shore, and had not been in need of any assistance.
