The lifeboat launched to a report of a Musto Skiff sailing dinghy capsized off Tankerton, with one person in the water. 

The dinghy was found one and a half miles offshore, having just been righted. The occupant was back onboard, and the lifeboat escorted the dinghy as it was sailed back towards the beach.

However, it capsized again several times during the return passage, including just off the harbour entrance.

It was therefore brought alongside the lifeboat, and taken under tow, finally being landed ashore in front of Whitstable Yacht Club.
