Shortly after returning from a routine training exercise, the lifeboat launched to assist the 34' motor cruiser Ocean Drive, broken down with double engine failure one mile north of Herne Bay.

The craft, with five people on board, was taken under tow and secured alongside in Whitstable Harbour.

A water leak in the engine room had allowed water to disable the electrics of both engines.
