The lifeboat launched to assist the 25' Dutch yacht Pollewop,
dismasted near the Spaniard Buoy, 4 miles off Whitstable.
Two lifeboat crew members were put aboard the yacht, and assisted in
securing the mast. The yacht then resumed passage for the Medway, escorted
by the lifeboat.
Due to the conditions, progress was very slow, so the lifeboat initially
took the yacht under tow, then requested the assistance of the Sheerness
all-weather lifeboat.At 1420, with Sheerness Lifeboat en
route, Thames Coastguard requested Whitstable Lifeboat to proceed to Herne
Bay, where an inflatable dinghy was reported drifting off King's Hall.
Leaving one crewman aboard the yacht, the lifeboat went to Herne Bay and
located the dinghy, which was now under way, and not in need of any
assistance.
Whitstable Lifeboat then returned to the yacht, which
was taken under tow by Sheerness Lifeboat, and subsequently taken to the
all-tide landing at Queenborough.
