For the second Wednesday night in a row, Whitstable Lifeboat launched to search the Swale following a sighting of two red distress flares.

This time the search centered on Faversham and Oare Creeks. Coastguard teams from Sheppey and Herne Bay also searched the area.

During the search a member of the public in Faversham reported finding parts of a spent parachute flare on her drive. The location, coupled with the wind direction, indicated that the flare had been fired from inland.

In light of this, the search was terminated and all units returned to station.
