Thames CG requested the lifeboat to launch following a report of four jetskis aground on the Pollard Spit, off Seasalter.

The lifeboat approached, but was unable to get closer than half a mile from the casualties, due to lack of water.

Two coastguard officers walked out across the mud to speak to the jet skiers. As they would not refloat until it was nearly dark, they were advised to head for Whitstable, only three miles away, when they did so. However, they were adamant that they wished to return to their launching point at Kingsferry Bridge.

Having remained in the area whilst these discussions took place, the lifeboat was then released to return to station, and the coastguards returned to the shore to keep the craft under observation as long as possible.
