Thames CG requested the launch of both the Whitstable and Margate lifeboats after receiving a Mayday call from the motor cruiser Jaramundo, reporting a fire on board.

The casualty was one mile east of the Hook Spit, between Reculver and Minnis Bay.

Whilst the lifeboats were proceeding, Jaramundo called to say the fire was now out, but they still required assistance. Whitstable Lifeboat arrived on scene first, and stood by until the larger Margate Lifeboat arrived and took the craft under tow for Ramsgate.
