The lifeboat launched to a report of a sailing dinghy
drifting seawards off Tankerton.
The dinghy was found two miles north of Swalecliffe. The
sails were rigged, and there was a lifejacket and water bottle on board.
As there was concern that someone could have fallen
overboard, the lifeboat commenced a search. However, after about five
minutes, the owner contacted Thames Coastguard to report that the dinghy had
drifted off from the shore, with no one aboard.
As the lifeboat crew were recovering the dinghy,
Thames CG requested the lifeboat to proceed to Reculver, where a jet
skier was in difficulties.
The lifeboat left the dinghy to drift, making a note of
its position, and then headed for Reculver, where the jet skier was found
hanging onto his craft, unable to reboard it due to severe cramp. An angling
boat was also alongside, having stopped to assist. He was brought aboard the
lifeboat, and the jet ski taken in tow.
Both were landed ashore at Reculver, to be met by Herne
Bay Mobile CG, and the lifeboat then went back to find the dinghy.
After a short search, it was located, and landed ashore
to its grateful owner at Tankerton Bay Sailing Club ramp.
