During the annual post-carnival barbeque at the boathouse, the lifeboat self-launched to what appeared to be an inflatable dinghy with a person swimming after it, 300 yards off the beach.

However, when the lifeboat came alongside it turned out to be a kayak, whose owner had gone into the water for a swim in order to cool off.
