The lifeboat was launched after an upturned dinghy,
with outboard motor attached, was spotted under Herne Bay Pier by Kent
Police.
By the time the lifeboat arrived the dinghy had
drifted into Herne Bay harbour. The mast was not rigged, and the motor was
found to be seized, with some components missing.
As it appeared that the dinghy had been in this
condition for some time, and that there were no signs of recent
occupation, the lifeboat towed it to the launching ramp and left it
in the care of Herne Bay Coastguard officers.
