The lifeboat launched to assist two windsurfers off Tankerton Slopes. A member of the public had reported that they had been down in the water for some time, and struggling to get back onto their boards in the gusty conditions.

The lifeboat arrived and spoke to the casualties, who by now were off Tankerton Bay Sailing Club. They declined any assistance, but said they would make their own way ashore. 

The lifeboat crew, and Herne Bay Coastguard unit ashore,  kept them under observation as they did so. Once they were safely back on the beach, the lifeboat was released to return to station.
