Crew members at the boathouse observed a capsized
Dart 18 catamaran, a mile offshore, with the occupant waving for
assistance. As this type of craft would normally carry two crew, but
only one was visible, a sweep with the station binoculars revealed the
second crew member in the water approximately a quarter of a mile away
from the boat, which was on its side being blown rapidly downwind.
The lifeboat was launched, and the man
recovered, and placed in a survival blanket. A yacht club rescue boat,
assisted by the lifeboat crew, then righted the catamaran, and the man was
landed ashore at the yacht club ramp.
