Details

The lifeboat launched following a report from the Whitstable Oyster smack Gamecock that a 17' gaff-rigged sailing vessel Pendragon had capsized two cables east of the Pollard Spit Buoy, during the annual Whitstable Barge Match..

The council patrol boat Wasp, which had been monitoring the race, was already on scene.

Eventually the Pendragon was righted but as both occupants were by now cold they were brought onto the lifeboat and taken ashore at the lifeboat station. The lifeboat then returned to the Pendragon, which was pumped out and taken under tow for the ramp near to the boathouse.
