Thames Coastguard requested the lifeboat to conduct
a low water search of the Swale for two people missing from the
Queenborough area of the Isle of Sheppey. Coastguards from Herne Bay and
Sheppey were also tasked to search along the shoreline.
The
search for the men had begun the previous day, and involved lifeboats from
Sheerness, coastguard units, and an R.A.F Sea King helicopter from
Wattisham in Suffolk.
Whitstable Lifeboat
commenced a search of the eastern Swale westwards from Shellness,
eventually locating a body in the water between Ridham Dock and the
Kingsferry Bridge. The lifeboat stood by until a police launch arrived to
recover the body.
During
the search the other body was located on mud flats opposite Queenborough,
and was also recovered by the police.
