Thames Coastguard requested the lifeboat to launch to investigate an upturned boat sighted off the Neptune PH, Whitstable.

The craft, a white speedboat, was found aground, upside down, in very shallow water. It appeared to be in a poor condition, with no engine. As it did not appear that anyone had been aboard, the lifeboat was released to return to station.

Enquiries ashore indicated that the boat was normally kept on the beach at Seasalter, and it was believed that it had been pushed out to sea sometime during the night.
