Details

The lifeboat launched to assist an inflatable dinghy reported in difficulties near Herne Bay Pier.

When the lifeboat arrived on scene the dinghy was only around 200 yards offshore, and not in need of any assistance.

Thames Coastguard then requested the lifeboat to proceed to Swalecliffe, as reports were coming in of two people cut off by the tide off Seaview Caravan Park.

The two teenagers were found on a sandbank a third of a mile offshore. They initially declined any assistance, saying they were happy to swim back to the beach. However, they were persuaded to board the lifeboat, and were landed ashore near the caravan park, and met by Herne Bay Coastguard, and one of their mothers.
