At 1530, whilst at sea on a training exercise, the
lifeboat spotted a kitesurfer in difficulties 200 yards N of Whitstable
harbour.
He and his rig were brought aboard the lifeboat, and
landed ashore at the East Quay.
Thames Coastguard then requested the lifeboat to
assist another kitesurfer who had become separated from his board off
Whitstable Yacht Club. He was found to be making his own way ashore, with
his kite, and did not need any assistance. His board was recovered by the
Yacht Club rescue boat.
The lifeboat then continued on exercise until 1643,
when Thames CG requested the boat to proceed to Herne Bay, following a
report of two people from an inflatable in the water 200 yards west of the
pier.
At 1648, having got as far as Swalecliffe, the
lifeboat was stood down, as the people had managed to make it to shore.
