The lifeboat was launched following a
report of a dinghy, with outboard motor attached, unmanned and drifting
off Herne Bay.
The dinghy was found 100 yards off the
beach at Western Esplanade. Thames CG requested the lifeboat to tow the
dinghy into Herne Bay Harbour, whilst enquiries were made as to where it
had come from.
As the lifeboat landed the dinghy into the
safekeeping of the Herne Bay Coastguard, a member of the public recognised
it, and was able to identify the owner.
Thames Coastguard then contacted the owner,
and he confirmed that it had been left on a mooring off Herne Bay, no was
was missing, and it must have broken adrift.
At the owner's request, the lifeboat then
towed the dinghy back out to the mooring and secured it, and was then
released to return to station.
