The
lifeboat launched following a
report of a 13-year old boy having fallen from the cliffs at Bishopstone,
between Herne Bay and Reculver.
Although
ambulance personnel were already with the boy, the lifeboat was launched
in case child required transfer by sea to a point on shore that could be
reached by an ambulance.
Whilst
proceeding to the scene the lifeboat crew observed a windsurfer in
difficulties after his board’s mast foot snapped. Thames Coastguard
requested the lifeboat to return him to the beach before continuing to
Bishopstone.
Shortly
afterwards Thames Coastguard tasked the lifeboat to investigate a jet ski
reported to be drifting in Herne Bay harbour towards the pier. Initially
reports indicated the jet ski was unoccupied.
However
on arrival of the lifeboat the crew found the occupant clinging to his
craft unable to remount and restart. He was assisted back onto the jet
ski; the craft restarted and advised to return to the shore.
The
lifeboat then continued to Bishopstone and arrived ‘on scene’ to find
that the ambulance and coastguard personnel were assisting the boy to the
ambulance which had made its way to the sea front. After ensuring all had
made it to the sea wall safely the lifeboat was released and returned to
station.
