The lifeboat was launched following a report from Tankerton Lifeguards of a man overboard from a catamaran off Tankerton Slopes. The casualty could be seen in the water waving for help, and the now unoccupied catamaran was sailing along on its own.

When the lifeboat arrived on scene the occupant had already been recovered by another sailing dinghy. The lifeboat therefore went after the catamaran, and reunited it with its owner, who was then able to sail back to the beach without further assistance.
