Whilst washing down the lifeboat following a
training exercise, crew members were approached by a member of the
public expressing concern for the safety of one of his group of
kayakers, who was struggling to make progress against the fresh breeze
and choppy conditions.
The lifeboat was launched, and came alongside the
casualty two minutes later, around half a mile off the Old Neptune pub. The
man, and the open "sit-on" type canoe he had been paddling, were brought
aboard the lifeboat, and landed ashore at the boathouse.
As he was very cold, he remained at the boathouse for
some time while he warmed up.
