Thames Coastguard requested the lifeboat to launch following a report of the three occupants of a dinghy half a mile off Leysdown shouting and waving for help.

The lifeboat arrived alongside the dinghy to find the occupants happily fishing, and not in need of any assistance. It is believed that they had earlier been shouting and waving to relatives ashore, and this had been mistaken by the first informant as shouts for help.

The lifeboat therefore returned to station.
