Thames CG requested the lifeboat to launch following a 999 call reporting an inflatable dinghy drifting out to sea off the Long Beach, Whitstable.

On arrival the dinghy turned out to be a kayak, with a couple on board sunbathing, and not in need of assistance.

The lifeboat was then diverted to a swimmer possibly in difficulties reported by Herne Bay CG. However the swimmer was found to be making his way back towards the shore, and again did not require assistance.

The lifeboat then remained at sea for a training exercise.
