Thames CG requested the lifeboat to launch
to assist the 40' motor cruiser Fermain V which had broken down in
The Swale west of Harty Ferry. The craft is a Dunkirk veteran, built in
1926, and was on its way from Conyer to Ramsgate to join in the events
marking the 70th anniversary of the evacuation.
The lifeboat took the Fermain V
under tow, and placed it alongside in Whitstable Harbour, where it was met
by a lifeboat shore party and Herne Bay Coastguards.
