The lifeboat was launched following a report to Thames Coastguard of a body in the water 4.5 miles north of Whitstable.

The lifeboat proceeded to the reported position of the body which was being kept under observation by the 40-foot motor cruiser which had made the original report.

The body was recovered into the lifeboat, and subsequently landed ashore at Whitstable Harbour, into the care of Kent Police.
