The lifeboat launched to assist a 17' speedboat with three p.o.b. which was broken down between Bishopstone and Reculver. Thames Coastguard had tried to contact any other vessels in the area that could assist, but none were available.

The lifeboat therefore launched and  towed the craft to Herne Bay. It was placed on a mooring off Herne Bay harbour, and the occupants landed ashore into the care of Herne Bay Coastguard.
