Thames CG requested the lifeboat to launch following a 999 call reporting a kitesurfer who appeared to be  in difficulties around a mile offshore from the Bun Penny pub on Herne Bay seafront.

The lifeboat launched and proceeded to the last known position, but nothing was seen. Herne Bay Coastguard was with the first informant, who was able to identify where they had last seen the casualty.

The lifeboat therefore commenced a search up to two miles offshore, between Herne Bay Pier and Long Rock, Swalecliffe.

During the search a kitesurfer matching the description of the casualty safely came ashore near Herne Bay harbour, and it was then confirmed that this was the missing person.

The lifeboat therefore returned to station.
